Molybdenum Ditelluride Solution Customization

Because of its favorable properties compared to other TMDs, molybdenum ditelluride (MoTe2) is a popular transition metal disulfide (TMD) material. Semiconducting 2H polymorphs of MoTe2 are more stable and therefore easier to produce.

The hexagonal (2H-MoTe2) polymorph is an indirect band gap semiconductor, but when thinned to a few layers, it becomes a direct band gap semiconductor with a direct band gap of 1.1 eV. This band gap opening is followed by a robust near-IR photoluminescence signal (similar to Si), making 2H-MoTe2 a promising candidate for optoelectronic devices. Layerless 2H-MoTe2 photodetectors have been proposed as a future integrated part of silicon photonic applications.

Molybdenum Ditelluride Solution Synthesis and Characterization

Alfa Chemistry provides unique MoTe2 solutions in single, few, or thick layers. We prepare unique solutions utilizing liquid-phase exfoliation, a simple but cost-effective solution processing approach. We first synthesize high-quality MoTe2 crystals with a purity of 99.9995%. We then disperse them into various dispersions (electronic grade chemicals with a purity of 99.9999%) by ultrasonic treatment.

We begin by synthesizing high-purity MoTe2 crystals with a 99.9995 percent purity. We then use ultrasonic treatment to disperse them into various dispersions (electronic grade chemicals with a purity of 99.9999 percent). Sonication to delaminate the MoTe2 layers creates highly crystalline MoTe2 flakes suspended in the dispersion solution because the manufactured MoTe2 crystals are exceedingly crystalline. Depending on your needs, we may create single-layer, few-layer, multi-layer, or even bulk-layered solutions. The types of dispersions we can provide include, but are not limited to:

  • Ethanol
  • Isopropanol
  • Deionized water
  • NMP

This high purity custom solution is environmentally stable and can be easily deposited on a selection of substrates or surfaces. The thickness of MoTe2 flakes deposited on various substrates ranges from 1 L to larger flakes, with lateral dimensions ranging from 10 nm to 10 um. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), electron energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDAX), Raman spectroscopy, and radio photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) have all been used to assess the crystallinity of MoTe2 nanomaterials (XPS).

We primarily distribute supersaturated 2D solutions to save money on shipping. The concentration of these solutions varies depending on the type of 2D layer. After the consumer receives the supersaturated solution, it can be diluted into a significant volume. The user can then use a simple technique to deposit the 2D layer onto the specified substrate. Because of its good dispersion, stability, and performance, we recommend isopropanol as a dispersion.
