2D Materials Research Fellow

Alfa Chemistry specializes in 2D crystals, 2D amorphous films, and 3D carbon foams materials production, device physics, and general graphene applications. We provide a wide choice of 2D materials to our customers, which can be used in a variety of applications. We're searching for a dedicated, self-motivated team member that shares our enthusiasm for the rapidly developing field of 2D materials.

The ideal candidate will be determined, focused, and detail-oriented, with excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork abilities.

Job Description

The candidate will fabricate and characterize multilayer assemblies of 2D crystals and 2D crystal heterostructures at the nanoscale. Fabrication capabilities include manipulating a range of crystals such as graphene, hexagonal boron nitride, and transition metal disulfides using cutting-edge techniques and technology (TMDC). Optical (Raman, luminescence, and Fourier transform spectroscopy) and scanning probe (AFM, EFM, MFM, STM) characterization capabilities may be available. In addition, the position will be required to adapt and deliver materials for internal and external collaborations and report findings to supervisors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement research based on group goals and deliverables of scientific research and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant literature.
  • Set up, maintain and innovate experimental equipment. This will focus on nanoscale characterization of emerging phenomena (scanning probes and optical experiments).
  • Fabrication of samples/devices for measurement and collaborative work
  • Design and implement new fabrication techniques to add new property coupling to 2D crystals and heterostructures
  • Document and analyze experimental results
  • Disseminate research results
  • Contribute to general group maintenance. This includes providing training, resource management and basic administration
  • Responsible for part of the safety management system and risk assessment

Job Requirements

  • Master's degree in materials science, chemistry, physics, engineering or equivalent
  • 3+ years of work experience. Experience in experimental research related background is a plus.
  • Strong experience in micro- and nano-fabrication, characterization and measurement techniques; detailed knowledge of the key technologies involved is a plus.
  • Strong materials characterization skills; proficiency with Raman, AFM, SEM and corresponding software is a plus.
  • Demonstrated project design, experimental team formation and laboratory management skills
  • Highly motivated, organized and responsible individual who can work both independently and as part of a team
  • Understanding and diagnosing failure mechanisms of materials in products
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; a sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on the success of the team
